They clinch and Villefort lands a nice elbow, but Lennox comes back with a right hand. Spinning back kick from Villefort almost lands flush to the jaw but instead just glances off. They circle out and Villefort throws a body kick, but Lennox catches it and throws him down before waving him back up. Left lands for Lennox and Villefort goes on the retreat for a moment. Step-in elbow misses for Villefort and they exchange knees. Villefort lands a right and then drops into side mount, but the Miletich fighter manages to give his back and escape to his feet. Right hand lands over the top and then Villefort kicks at the legs while Lennox is on his back. Big knee to the body lands for Villefort and then Lennox clinches, but Villefort blocks a takedown and then hits a nice outside trip to put Lennox on his back. Lennox blocks a high kick as they continue to circle, and then Villefort lands a hard leg kick. Round One begins and they circle off…and literally ten seconds in the crowd begin to boo as, well, I guess they haven’t wildly traded yet. Being perennially biased towards ATT fighters and having been impressed with Villefort (the godson of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira!) in the WEC, I was expecting him to pick up the win via submission. Lennox meanwhile sported an overall record of 10-1 and was fighting out of the Miletich camp. These two Welterweights had moved over to the UFC from the WEC when they dissolved their 170lbs division, and both men had been 1-0 in that organization, with American Top Team’s Villefort looking especially promising in his win over Mike Campbell.
